Primary day

Martha’s Vineyard makes up nearly half the vote in Tuesday’s primary election, and Vineyarders have two choices for the Cape and Islands state Representative: Islander Arielle Faria is running against Assistant District Attorney Thomas Moakley. Where there's a bill

The state legislature has given initial approval to the housing bank bill during informal session. The bill is unlikely to pass in the current legislative session, but local officials say the move shows that legislators are keeping the possibility of the housing bank alive. Read more.


Senior housing for Oak Bluffs

Affordable housing for seniors on the Island is a step closer. The Martha’s Vineyard Commission approved the demolition of an Oak Bluffs property that is the site for Aidylberg III to be developed by Island Elderly Housing. Before the latest commission decision, the project was even taken to court. Read more.

Wampum art is an ancient history of a people, they are a book, a movie a trace of the life and lives of wampanoags as lived in and wampum beadery. Tomorrow’s MV Museum will feature generations of Widdis art including Donald Widdiss's significant, new wampum belt. Take part in contributing to the ancient legacy of Wampanoag art and culture. M.V. Jazz and Blues Summerfest: Hear music from SAGE, Sammulous, and Uptown Royalty NYC at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown from 6 to 8:30 pm. The Lulada Club and Winard Harper & Jeli Posse will perform on Sunday night.

Misty Meadows Open House: Tour the beautiful property at Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center in West Tisbury and see demonstrations, take part in horse activities, and much more. 10 am to 12 pm.


YWCA Curated Exhibit: Learn about the history of the YWCA, which is celebrating its 165th anniversary, in the "Equal, Powerful, Unstoppable" exhibit at the Carnegie. It's open daily through Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. Read more about the show here.

Sunday

Mid-Island Gallery Stroll: The first annual art stroll up-Island continues every other Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. Explore Kara Taylor Gallery, Martha's Vineyard Glassworks, Turpentine Gallery, the Ashley Medowski Gallery, and more.


M.V. Ballroom Dancing: All ages are welcome to have fun learning the waltz, cha-cha, salsa, and tango at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Vineyard Haven from 7 to 8:30 pm. You can come with or without a partner.
