Aula da Saudade The Times was invited to the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School for Aula da Saudade, a traditional Brazilian class in which students reflect on the school year. Students of Daniel Soares's Portuguese language arts class were grateful to have improved their writing and reading skills, and some are graduating seniors. The event was bittersweet, though that's how it'ssupposed to feel. Read about it here.
Chappy farm conservation moves forward 171 acres of the Pimpneymouse Farm property on Chappaquiddick will be preserved for conservation purposes. Although the transaction is not completed yet, steps will be taken by Island conservation groups to preserve this area. Read more here.
Veterans' housing on the way An affordable housing project for veterans is planned in Oak Bluffs, and developers say the project may be ready to welcome tenants by mid-2026. The project is being developed by Island Housing Trust and the Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center. Read more here.

There aren’t any meetings on Memorial Day. Here’s what to look forward to on Tuesday.

Also, Tisbury will be holding its special and annual town meetings on Tuesday, starting at 7 pm at the MVRHS Performing Arts Center. Here are the town warrants.

Weekend:I can’t believe how gorgeous it is outside. This is a big weekend, friends. I’ll give you a few options, but honestly why not just go lie on a beach somewhere? On Saturday, you can benefit from Jeri Dantzig’s decision to retire at her Artists Retiring
Sale. 9 am to 3 pm. There are a couple of plant sales you may want to visit; one at Polly Hill and one with the Garden Club at the Old Mill. Corinna is having a sale of her beautiful Seaweed Art in Aquinnah. 10 am to 5 pm. The Great Edgartown Sidewalk Sale is happening at the village green from 10 am to 4 pm. Cousin Rose Gallery is opening for the season in Oak Bluffs, Eisenhauer Gallery is also opening. –C.B.
Start Sunday with the Blessing of the Fleet in Menemsha at the harbor. 9 am. The Artisans Festival opens at the Grange Hall this weekend and is open Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The Oak Bluffs Open Market in Washington Park begins at 10 am and runs
