Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
On this day in 1961, residents of Washington, D.C., earned the right to vote in presidential elections when the Twenty-third Amendment passed in Congress. We’ve got ourselves a presidential election this year as well, so remember to register if you want to vote in November. Today is also National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which commemorates the service members who fought in the war. Several Vietnam War veterans on the Vineyard have told the Times about their experiences surrounding the conflict. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

A Holy time of year
Passover, Ramadan, and Easter converge at this time of year. And that got our managing editor Connie Berry contemplating the Holy Land in her recent faith column, especially with the violence and war falling on Gaza. She sat down with our publisher, Charles Sennott, who lived in and wrote about the region for 30 years as a journalist. Read that conversation here. The West Tisbury library will be screening "'Til Kingdom Come" on Monday at 6 pm with a discussion led by Sennott afterward.
New wind bids
The state received a package of new bids for wind developments that will be near Vineyard waters. They include Vineyard Wind 2 and New England Wind, both would be significantly larger than the Vineyard Wind currently under construction off the coast. The new bids won’t be completed for several years, but they would represent a significant increase in power from offshore wind. Read that story here.

Reflections of a newshound
After nearly 40 years in journalism, former MV Times news editor George Brennan was recognized over the weekend with some of the biggest honors that a New England journalist could receive. Reflecting on his career, Brennan told the Times about his journey in the profession and how he ended up at the Vineyard. Read more here.

Quote of the Day
"It’s a little nostalgic for the Donnelly family because they grew up there. And there’s also a lot of history just from the different lifeguards who have served this town over the years [...] Now everything is about to change."
Edgartown Parks Commissioner Andrew Kelly on developments being made to South Beach, including the demolition of the lifeguard shack

Hot Topic Comment
"Just another for profit company, raking in millions of taxpayer dollars, just like the oil companies. Exactly how many millions of tax dollars has wind consumed? How many millions of dollars in taxes will wind farm staff pay? How many millions of dollars in taxes will service boat builders and other vendors pay in taxes?"
— Albert Hess on the approval of offshore wind project "Sunrise Wind"

Hot Topic Letter
"The captain then headed back into the Vineyard Haven harbor, did another 180 maneuver and then slid the boat into the slip so that I was not even aware we were docked until I heard the engines shut down. It was a great demonstration of excellent seamanship in my opinion. Well done."
— Bob Rosenbaum on the smooth technical maneuvering of the ferry on his boat ride home

Today: Watch an epic story performed by an all-star cast in the fantasy adventure film "Dune: Part Two." This box-office success with rave reviews is an adaptation of a 1965 novel by Frank Herbert. In a Directors Guild of America podcast, Steven Spielberg said it's "one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen." Edgartown Cinema, 6 pm.

For a live musical adventure, catch Big Weather and Lake of Autumn, featuring Hannah Sparagana on viola and vocals, Adam Howell on guitar and vocals, Stuart Rodegast on drums, Anthony Esposito on bass, and Noa Maxner on guitar. PathwaysArts in Chilmark, 7 pm. Doors open 6:30 pm.

Tomorrow: The whole family can enjoy lots of springtime events on Saturday, including St. Andrew's Easter Egg Hunt at their rectory at 9 am, Trustees' Farm Institute Egg Hunt at 9:45 am, Misty Meadows' Spring Egg Hunt at 10 am, West Tisbury Library's Spring Egg Hunt at 10:30 am, the opening of Flying Horses Carousel from 11 am to 4 pm, with a visit by the Easter Bunny on Sunday, plus Easter Egg Coloring at St. Andrew's Parish Hall at 11 am, and an Island Alpaca Easter Event at 1 pm. After your baskets are full, hop over to the Edgartown library for Music by Jeremy Berlin and Delanie Pickering, 3 pm, or to the West Tisbury library for a 'Mood Swings' Concert by Music Street musicians, 4 pm. Also up-Island, bring a dish to share to the 63rd Chilmark Potluck Jam, 6 pm. Down-Island, celebrate Harmony & Heritage at the P.A. Club to support the Island Children's School, 6 pm.

On Sunday, there are many Easter Services around the Island, plus in-person and online Meditation with Bodhi Path, 10 am. For a Sunday Brunch and Live Jazz by Jeremy Berlin and Eric Johnson, all are welcome to gather at the Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven, 12 pm. To work off holiday treats and have lots of fun, head over to the YMCA Ice Arena for a Public Figure Skating Session, 12:10 to 1:10 pm. After all those triple axels, relax in a cushioned seat at the M.V. Film Center and watch the film "The Taste of Things," a romantic drama set in 1889 France about a chef and a personal cook, 4 pm. In the evening, tune to the local WVVY Radio Show featuring Jamaican Ska music from the early 1960s, 8 pm at 96.7 lpfm or online at wvvy.org. Enjoy the festive weekend!
