Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Canned beer made its debut on this day in 1935. The Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company delivered 2,000 cans of Krueger’s Finest Beer and Krueger’s Cream Ale to loyal fans in Richmond, Va. But when did beer pong start? That’s the real question. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

So long, Beach Road Weekend
News broke today that the popular Beach Road Weekend will no longer be held on the Island. The story is developing, but organizers say that financial struggles led to the decision. The reaction has been mixed in Vineyard Haven. Many are bummed, but others say the concert was too big for the small town. Read that story here.
Another Edgartown drug bust
Two people were recently arrested in Edgartown for allegedly trying to sell cocaine. The drug bust was conducted by the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force, and over $7,000 was also found, which was believed to have come from drug sales. Read more here.

Rose arrest update
News has been swirling since former Oak Bluffs Fire Chief John Rose was arrested over the weekend. The arrest follows allegations that multiple staff at the Oak Bluffs department were harrassed. And the West Tisbury Chief that hired Rose as a volunteer firefighter says he doesn’t regret the decision, despite the new charges. Read that story here.

Quote of the Day
"We put everything we had into this. We worked and loved it … in spite of all the random criticism and lack of being embraced by the town that hosted us, we absolutely loved and relished the happiness that we generated and the economic impact we generated. It fulfilled everything we said it would do."
— Beach Road Weekend promoter Adam Epstein
on moving the festival off-Island

Hot Topic Comment
"The catch-22s of putting on large music events here seem to have taken another down. Credit is due to Mr. Epstein for his perseverance in keeping at it for 5 years. JAM..NecterFest…Now Beach Road. Is this the island music festivals go to die?"
— Julian Wise comments on Beach Road Weekend leaving the Island

Hot Topic Letter
"This is not a for-profit business trying to expand to increase their profit. This is a school trying to be more of an asset to this community than it already is. The working class on this Island is struggling and the Montessori school has taken it upon themselves to help tangibly ease that."
—Valci Carvalho looks forward to the
Montessori school expansion

Staying in?
Here's a delicious way to fit in leafy greens this winter: Baked Fish and Chard Gratin, a recipe shared by Garden Notes columnist Abigail Higgins many years ago. One could get lost in the many flavorful layers of this warm casserole dish, so be sure to stick to the breadcrumb trail.

If you'd like to share a recipe with the community, send it to us at recipes@mvtimes.com, and include a photo of the dish and a brief backstory if you have one.
