Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
There are two observances today that are quite fitting for the Vineyard. It is both National Hug Your Dog Day and National Farm Animals Day. If only these occurred
during the Ag Fair. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Keep it residential Oak Bluffs voters made it clear during their annual town meeting they were not in favor of overlay districts that could bring
more commercial activity next door. This has been a brewing topic among residents. However, it wasn’t the only issue that voters considered in the packed PAC. A spike in the budget and expensive projects were also considered. Read more here.
Edgartown postpones party bylaw Edgartown voters indefinitely delayed a much-debated bylaw that would have restricted the amount of large events a private residence can hold. Voters also struck down a proposed ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, and approved amended plans for the Robinson Road Recreation Area. The meeting covered 110 items, taking five hours in total. Read more here.
Short-termed It felt like a slog at times, but West Tisbury voters supported a new rule that attempts to rein in the short-term
rental market while protecting year-round residents. The bylaw will require a resident to live in a home they rent on AirBnB and other platforms for 30 days in the year, and guests will have to rent a space for a minimum of two nights. Read our story here.

Journalism that matters, where you need it, when you need it. Want more?
Quote of the Day "It’s not just filling the position. We want to put someone in that position who will take the school up a notch and improve the school. I see all three of these as opportunities." — Superintendent Richie Smith on the loss of a third Island public school principal
Hot Topic Comment "...I am so happy for this outcome. I am happy that Animal Health Care and those that work there will be back to business without this huge stress hanging over them." — Janet Packer on the uncontested lease for the Island’s animal clinic
Hot Topic Letter "My mother taught me to 'clean in front of your own doorstep first, and the whole neighborhood will be clean.' A slow drive around the down Island residential neighborhoods today, while the trees are still leafless, reveals commercial vehicle density, ominous looking sheds, appalling blight, and contaminating conditions at nearly every turn. There appear to be little to no
zoning bylaws enforcement at this time. If town building inspectors and board of health agents are inundated, then provide adequate resources for consistent and proper enforcement." — Kriner Cash emphasizing the importance of environmental health on-Island in context of the Island-wide Master Plan Implementation Committee
Today: Ever feel like you should buy a yoga mat even though you don’t actually practice yoga? It seems like one of those things I’d have lying around collecting dust. Shake yours off for this Restorative Reset with Jelisa Difo at the Edgartown library. 5:30 pm. –C.B.
Here’s something new to put on your radar if you’re looking for a writerly bunch. A group gathers at the Slough Farm farmhouse for a Sounds Like Spring Writers Circle and Sonic Journey. Read the description. It sounds pretty amazing. 6:30 pm. –C.B.
