Short-term regulations A committee in West Tisbury is proposing a new bylaw that would put limits and restrictions on short-term rentals in the town. Right now, the short-term rental committee is looking for feedback from town residents before holding an official public hearing on the proposal. They hope to eventually get the bylaw in front of voters at an upcoming town meeting. Here’s that story.
Free rides The Try Transit program, in its second year, is making Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) bus rides free from now until March. VTA's Medivan and Lift programs will also be free through March. The program is funded by the Massachusetts state legislature through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Read more here.
No houseboats Oak Bluffs placed a limitation on overnight vessel use of the town harbor. That includes houseboats. Although there was

The MVTimes: Our reporting makes a difference
Journalism that matters, where you need it, when you need it. Want more?
Quote of the Day "I think a lot of credit should be given to the master of the MV Nantucket and his persistence in trying to report this problem. . . If you think confidentiality is the core of the SQMS, I think it’s more listening to the people who reported it." — Steamship Authority’s Falmouth representative Peter Jeffrey on the ferry service’s handling of July’s Sankaty incident
Hot Topic Comment "A true testament to people with differing ideologies seeing a problem then coming together with a viable solution. This is what compromise looks like. Bravo to all. Thank you for seeing that nature can be preserved while allowing its use in a responsible way." — Carl Kelly comments on the Cape Poge trail restoration project, the first phase of which began this week
Hot Topic Letter "Let me be perfectly clear: Those claims could not be further from the truth. In fact, the Steamship Authority has released more than four hours of video and hundreds of pages of investigatory documents to several media outlets upon request, including The Martha’s Vineyard Times, and addressed the results of the investigation and the corrective action in detail at multiple public meetings." — SSA General Manager Bob Davis writes to us addressing allegations that the SSA worked to conceal the findings of an investigation into the untethering of the Sankaty
