Over the sand we may not go?
Over-sand vehicle access on Chappy beaches has been a controversial topic to say the least. We hear from some people about why it’s so important that vehicle access is maintained, and we also dive into the latest town decision. In short, the beach managers will have to go back to the planning board because town officials don’t have documentation of an original permit obtained decades ago. If they don’t, the town may issue a cease and desist order. Read that story here.

Chilmark tennis simmering again It was a contentious issue — some have said an embarrassing moment for Chilmark: The debate of who should operate tennis operations at the town’s community center. While a compromise was reached in April, frustrations seem to be boiling up again as a tennis pro who has been teaching in Chilmark for decades was asked to not come back. Some longtime members are suggesting that they may leave the community center. Read more here.

Walk to the Lagoon from this meticulously maintained, 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom home located on a private way off Winyah Lane. The property abuts conservation land on two sides, and there's a short trail to the Lagoon, where one can leave a kayak and explore the water. Built in 1997 by the current owners, with 3500 square feet of living space, the first floor has a double-height great room punctuated by a striking brick fireplace, plus a step-down to an adjacent, second living room that allows more space to relax or entertain. There's a well-equipped kitchen and separate dining room with sliding doors to the deck, plus a laundry room and full bathroom and office, which could also be used as a first-floor bedroom. On the second floor, you will
find 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom. The finished walkout basement was completed in 2012, and it provides another bedroom, full bath, and a TV/hang-out room with doors to a patio. There is plenty of storage on this lower level, plus interior access to the double garage. Recent improvements in 2023 include a new roof and a new HVAC. The half-acre property benefits from some nice, private, outdoor spaces from which to enjoy the established perennials, mature trees, and stone walls. Plus there's an outdoor shower! Enjoy sunsets and bird songs from the elevated deck that overlooks woodland, and hear the steamship ferry horn to remind you that you are just a short distance to town.

Here's a tasty appetizer to enjoy at home or at a potluck, cookout, or picnic: Glazed Sausage Bits, based on a Jacques Pepin recipe shared by Connie Berry.
It's straightforward to prepare, and it's a chance to use fun, colored toothpicks for serving them.
If your culinary adventures lead to a recipe to share with the community, send it to us at recipes@mvtimes.com, and include a photo of the dish and a brief backstory if you have
one.
