Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.

Because of the holiday, we’re publishing the paper early this week. Check distributors tomorrow for our special — perhaps even collectible — Fourth of July logo banner. Also, today is World Sports Journalists Day, and a shoutout is in order to Vineyarder and gold medalist Geovane Meikle. Our Nikeya Tankard just covered his triumphant return from the United World Games. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Quote of the Day "Although the Sheriff’s Office has complied, and intends to comply, with case-specific requests for Brady information involving members of a prosecution team, even broader disclosure of information concerning all officers over a twenty-year period, without regard to whether they were involved in an arrest or members of a prosecution team, could have a chilling effect." —Sheriff Bob Ogden states that the Sheriff’s office never failed to provide Brady materials to a prosecutor in Friday's Legal Filing at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial CourtHot Topic Comment"Given the recent Supreme Court decisions and Thursday’s Presidential debate, it couldn’t have happened at a better time." —Elizabeth Langer comments on the fortuitous
timing of the Island dispensary reopening after the state rulingHot Topic Letter"Stick with us — the bitter taste of this setback will make our eventual success all the sweeter. We’ll be letting you know the next steps, and, of course, continuing to seek your thoughts and help." —Coalition chairs of the M.V. Today: Open Mic Night at Island Music is back and we’re all glad it is, especially folks like
me who can’t carry a tune in a bucket. (That’s a little bit of the Ozarks in me coming out.) It’s an amazing place to gather for music. Free. 6 pm. –Connie Berry
I think I hate ticks as much as I love live music. Maybe more. The Vineyard Haven library hosts The Tick Talk with updates on lone star ticks, alpha-gal syndrome, and more. 6 pm. –C.B.

Tomorrow: I usually don’t get excited about a new place to shop, but this one, Grand Opening at Boutique on the Buy Way, is an upscale consignment shop at the Dockside Marketplace. This might mean it’s easier on the pursestrings. 11 am to 5 pm. –C.B.
Movies! Check out what’s playing at Island theaters here.

Featherstone Center for the Arts’ new exhibition is "Rising Up! A Multi-Cultural Celebration of Stitched Fine Art." It pushes boundaries of subject matter, from figurative
to abstract, materials, scrim to plastics, and dimensionality. The show aims to expose people to stitch as a legitimate art medium, while also highlighting artists who are coincidentally primarily women of color. "My creative practice fosters connections, provokes thought, and inspires action toward a more inclusive, sustainable future," says artist Jaleeca Yancy. Read more about "Rising Up!" here.
