Whale identified as juvenile female
The North Atlantic right whale that washed ashore in Edgartown on Sunday was identified as a juvenile female, although more work is needed to get a better picture about the animal. Preliminary reports indicate the rope had entangled the juvenile near the tail. The whale’s death caused an outcry from researchers and advocates about the need to protect the species. Get the update here.

Towns respond to erosion
The towns of Edgartown and Chilmark are both working to fix some of the destruction and erosion left by the string of three storms that hit the Island in December and January. Edgartown, in their filing with state emergency officials, estimated the amount of damage at nearly $2 million; that’s for dredging, dune restoration, and other infrastructure repairs. In Chilmark, the town is planning to dredge Menemsha Basin and add sand to Menemsha Beach, as well as repair the Squibnocket parking lot area. Read about Chilmark here and an update on Edgartown here.

Located on Flanders Lane, this house sits up on the hill and looks toward Menemsha. There is a window a/c unit in the upstairs bedroom and another one in a downstairs bedroom. It is private and protected by trees. Visit the harbor to watch sunsets in Menemsha, dine in one of the places to eat there, or take in a day at the beach. Wifi has been updated and works well. Access to and parking for a beautiful private association beach off Moshup Trail in Aquinnah. Outdoor living spaces.

Hot Topic Letter
"Since it may be logistically hard to get all six towns to do this, and we may face other issues affecting the whole island, I came up with a better idea. We could create a commission where all of the towns had two representatives to vote on issues of planning for the Island. We could call it ‘The Commision for Martha’s Vineyard.’"
— Erik Albert writes to us about an alternative to an Island-wide ballot question for the turf field
