Discrepancies between state and local officials Island police chiefs say that their departments were not notified before the state cleaned up homeless encampments in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest earlier this week. The state told The Times that local police were aware of the issue. There are also other discrepancies on how many people were affected by the clean up and whether or not the unhoused community was warned. Read more here.

The first instruction for this recipe is to "follow your heart," which is why it's called the No Rules Aubergine Spread, shared by Annalivia Balaban. Make it your own, spread it on fresh bread, and enjoy it on Island time.
To learn how to make focaccia, which would be great with the eggplant spread, join Teri Culletto of Vineyard Baker at the Trustees' Farm Institute for Bread Art. You'll prepare and take home a fresh loaf with a beautiful design of your own. Thursday, August 8, 5:30 to 7:30
pm.
If you have a seasonal recipe to share with the community, send it to us at recipes@mvtimes.com along with a photo of the dish and a brief backstory if you have one.
