Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
For better or for worse, the first video on YouTube was uploaded on this day in 2005. It’s now one of the largest online platforms, and there are a surprising number of videos on it about Vineyard topics. By the way, tonight is the Chilmark annual town meeting and hopefully you voters won’t stay up too late. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Donor to replace trail plaque
The African American Heritage Trail reported a plaque along their route stolen earlier this month. The homage was for a former enslaved woman on the Island, who died a landowner in Chilmark. After an outpouring of support, an anonymous Chilmark resident is putting up the funds to replace the plaque. Read our story here.
No synthetic turf
It’s been a while since we’ve written about the turf debate at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, but it’s back in the news after the Oak Bluffs health board, after debating the issue for a long time, has set a new ban in place on synthetic turf fields across the town. They didn’t rule out a track though. Read our coverage here.
Chilmarkeans vote
Town meeting is tonight in Chilmark and the annual town election is tomorrow. We report on the candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters from earlier this month. Two vying for the select board. And we’ve written plenty about the tennis dispute, which will be a big discussion tonight. And that’s not all on the warrant.
MEETINGS

The Tisbury select board meets at 4:30 pm on Wednesday. Here is the
agenda.

The West Tisbury select board jointly meets with the board of assessors at 4:30 pm on Wednesday. Here is the agenda.

Also, the Chilmark town election is at the Chilmark Community Center from 12 pm to 8 pm.

Putting her soul into it
Romilda Marçal Pinto believes her artistry comes from her mother, a seamstress who created outfits for many occasions, including a bride-to-be or to dress the dead for their funeral. Her uncles were also creative and, despite not attending school, built beautiful houses in Brazil. Read more about the local artist and what inspires her work here.
