Cannabis supply line ‘broken’
State regulators discussed the possibility of allowing shipments of marijuana to the Island yesterday. That’s with a "broken" supply chain, as the only growing operation announcing that they would be closing by September, and production having stopped and supplies getting low. One commissioner questioned if there was a public health emergency. Read our coverage here.

Truck full of supplies headed to Brazil
Overnight, Talita Destefani Beauty Lounge became a temporary donation spot for clothes, shoes, and blankets to be sent to Brazil’s southern state Rio Grande Do Sul, which is experiencing the worst flooding in 80 years. Talita Destefani received more than she ever expected in one day and credits a strong local community for the effort. Read more here.


Part of Ag Fair history
The M.V. Ag Society has announced the winner for the 162nd annual Ag Fair. Oak Bluffs artist Traeger di Pietro and his painting of a couple and children looking out on the fairgrounds was selected to represent the big day. Di Pietro says he’s honored to be a part of the history of the fair. Is it August yet? Read more here.

Today: Experience a highly interactive, hilarious TBD Improv show in which the audience gives suggestions to Island-based performers, who create scenes right on the spot. Grange Hall in West Tisbury, 7 pm, with tickets through Circuit Arts.

The PBS documentary "Marian Anderson: The Whole World in Her Hands" is screening at the Film Center in Vineyard Haven, followed by a discussion with Sandra Grymes, the niece of the famous singer who performed around the world across several decades in the 20th century. 7:30 pm.
Weekend: On Saturday, pick up some colorful blooms at the MVRHS Mother's Day Plant Sale, 9 am to 12 pm. Kids can pair the flowers with a homemade craft at the Mother's Day Gift Making program at Edgartown library, 10 am to 5 pm. If you have books to donate, head to the Oak Bluffs Library Friends Book Drive, 11 am to 3 pm. All ages are welcome to attend an Aquinnah Variety Show, produced by Laura Jordan-Decker and Kate Taylor, Aquinnah Town Hall, 5 pm. There's also the MVRHS Minnesingers Spring Show at their Performing Arts Center, 7 pm, also on Sunday at 2 pm.

On Sunday, hear "Mom's Poems about Life" with Peter Palches at the Unitarian Universalist Society in Vineyard Haven or on Zoom, 10 am. For annuals, perennials, and vegetables, head to the Plant Sale at M.V. Community Greenhouse, 10 am to 3 pm. Join the Yogic Band Bhakti, with soup served afterwards, at the Milokan Cultural Center on the Native Earth Teaching Farm in Chilmark, 12 pm. For another musical event, gather for a Community Sing with Roberta Kirn at Slough Farm in Edgartown, 5 pm. In the evening, there's an epic adventure on the big screen: "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," Edgartown Cinema, 6:30 pm.

Paths and risks to community
Sheryl Taylor helps students at MVRHS think about social health — how, for example, health across a community can be supported by bike paths, or possibly challenged by having only one hospital. Thinking about health as access to sound options as well as social conditions, such as a good transportation system, shows students "how safety, public health, and increased physical activity are often intertwined."
