Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.

The Martha's Vineyard Times is celebrating the birthday of multi-instrumentalist and fellow fan of purple Prince Rogers Nelson, known simply as Prince. He would have been 66 years old. While Prince left a generational impact on music, we
at The Times can find only hints in his discography of what he thought of newspapers. The album cover of "Controversy" shows sensational headlines, and his song "Hello" addresses a scuffle between his bodyguards and photographers. The song "Chaos and Disorder" portrays a "no-name reporter" in way over his head. If you want recommendations from his 42 albums, you pretty much can't go wrong with his '80s output. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Gov. Healey tours Vineyard Wind facilities In a visit to the Vineyard Wind operations and maintenance facilities in Vineyard Haven on Thursday, Gov. Maura Healey touted her administration’s support for clean energy education. Once online, the windmill project is projected to supply power to 400,000 homes and businesses across the Commonwealth. The company has created "more than 2,000 high quality jobs across Massachusetts," Healey said, although only 90 are on the Vineyard, where the company is based. Read more here.

State urged to allow cannabis shipments to Vineyard Business owners told the state Cannabis Control Commission at the Oak Bluffs Public Library that access to marijuana on the Island is at risk since the only legal grower on the Island shut down this spring. They urged the commission to issue an emergency order to allow marijuana from the mainland to be shipped to the Vineyard. Fine Fettle, a dispensary in West Tisbury,
halted growing operations due to rising costs and has a dwindling supply to serve the Island’s medical marijuana patients. Island Time, a local marijuana shop, shut its doors in May, but is eyeing a chance to reopen. Some Islanders expressed worries that an illicit marijuana market would grow if legal access to cannabis disappears. Commissioners will meet again next week in Worcester. Read more here.
