Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Bill Keating, your representative in Congress, has responded to the broken turbine blade. He asked federal officials this week to create a protocol to notify local authorities immediately if hazardous conditions arise in offshore wind areas. And if you lost power last night up-Island, it was because an alleged drunk driver hit a utility pole. She was not seriously injured. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Alpha-gal support group draws crowd
There is now a support group for Vineyarders with alpha-gal sensitivity, an increasingly common allergy to mammalian food products caused by the bite of the lone star tick. The Ag Hall last week hosted dozens of Vineyarders to share their allergy tips and stories, and pose questions to a panel of medical and public health professionals. Organizers intend to hold monthly meetings. Read more here.

Communication breakdown
Congressman Bill Keating is the latest to criticize the response following a fractured Vineyard Wind turbine blade. Keating, in a letter to federal officials, particularly criticized the delay in informing communities. It took two days before any notice was sent to local municipalities from when the blade broke. Read that story here.

Black out
There were two seemingly bad accidents last night. One involved two minors and two vehicles that both went off the road. Both were lucky to come out mostly unscathed. Also, a suspected drunk driver crashed into a utility pole in West Tisbury, that left some residents out of electricity overnight. Read that here.

Davy Jones' shopping cart
It’s not an art installation — a shopping cart encrusted with marine life was returned to the Vineyard Haven Stop & Shop recently, and parked outside of the store last week. A Stop & Shop employee reached briefly by The Times offered some explanation. "It was over in the Harbor, and they pulled it out," the employee explained. "I can only assume that somebody rolled it into there." When asked what would become of the cart — which had braved shell and high water to get back — the employee stated, "I think it just goes in the trash."
