Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Apparently today is National Garlic Day, so maybe someone in your household can make some warm, delicious garlic bread. Perhaps one of the many farms across the Island has some garlic available. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Preventing PFAS contamination
The federal government has released its first ever standards on PFAS contamination within public drinking supplies. They are much more stringent than current Massachusetts regulations, and could require some towns — like Oak Bluffs — to add new remediation efforts. Water officials there have been working with engineers to come up with possible remediation efforts. Read our coverage here.
Tennis troubles
Leaders from the groups on either side of the upcoming Chilmark tennis vote have released statements disapproving a video recently published online. This video was posted by A Long Talk, a group that offers an "anti-racism activation experience" to interested organizations. A Long Talk has conducted sessions before in partnership with the Chilmark Tennis Action Council, the nonprofit managing the town's tennis courts and that is pushing for a "no" vote. Read more here.

Overridden
Tisbury looked like it might need a budget override, but work by the finance team and town departments led them to avoid the issue. One of the issues was a computational mystery in which a number from around a decade ago appeared in the Excel program. Read more here.

"I fished for conchs where the cable comes in from Falmouth into vineyard Haven outer harbor about a mile out. There was a breach in the cable and the electricity kept flowing [...] the conches in that particular area started growing without tails — very strange phenomenon."
— Jason Gale describing his observation of the effects of emissions on sea life in context of offshore wind’s submerged cables

Hot Topic Letter
"Nobody likes a long town meeting. [...] Instead of reinforcing this time-worn reason for skipping town meeting, it would be refreshing if this editorial had urged voters to try a little harder, make a few more sacrifices, bring hard questions to the hearings and committee meetings where the warrant articles originate, and truly exercise their democratic rights while those rights still exist."
— Dan Waters responding to an editorial on long town meetings
