A ‘major victory’
A federal judge has ruled in favor of the Venezuelan asylum seekers that brought a case against a number of top Florida officials — including Gov. Ron DeSantis. In the ruling, the judge said that a lawsuit could proceed against a company that flew the migrants from San Antonio to the Vineyard, in what civil rights lawyers say is a big win in the case. Read that story here.
New England Wind approved
The U.S. Department of the Interior has approved the eighth commercial-scale offshore wind project in the nation: New England Wind. The project’s lease area is located around 20 miles south of the Vineyard and consists of two projects. While on paper this looks like the largest wind project, there are still some hoops for the offshore wind developers to go through before that is true. Read more here.

‘Lasting legacy of integrity’
Former Congressman William Delahunt passed away over the weekend at the age of 82. He served a house district that included the Vineyard for seven terms, and he was a voice for Island issues. And even though he identified as liberal, he was known as being effective at working across the aisles on a variety of issues. Read our story here.

"This same thing could play out on the Vineyard. The Oak Bluffs SSA terminal is closed, and there is only one slip open in Vineyard Haven. If this one goes down, good luck bringing residents, workers and cargo on or off the Island."

Tomorrow: Join the Canasta Club at the West Tisbury library. They meet weekly, and they’re always open to new members. My parents played canasta with my aunt and uncle every week. The only thing missing seems to be the Jim Beam highballs. 3 pm. –C.B.
