Historic move?
Stop & Shop is looking to renovate its Vineyard Haven location, and it wants an abutting historic house gone. Specifically, they’re looking to have it relocated to a spot on Lagoon Pond Road. However, some people want more information before the Martha’s Vineyard Commission makes a final determination. Plus, this isn’t the first time the grocery store
chain has been before the commission about this building. Read more here.

A Chesapeake parallel

Quote of the Day "For hundreds of years, the pattern of the sweeping beam was three whites and a red. Now it’s just white, red, white, red. If it’s possible, I think it’d be great if we could return to the old, traditional — if you can call it that — pattern of the light." — Aquinnah town administrator Jeffrey Madison on changes being made to the Aquinnah lighthouse beaconHot Topic Comment"For all the folks denying such a dramatic unwelcome change, kindly avail yourself of an invitation to spend time to observe and listen to the negative effects on us tax paying homeowners whose lives will have been disrupted, and our home values decreased by these three buildings and sudden overwhelming population increase." — Doreen Kinsman on the expansion of the Montessori school Hot Topic Letter"‘O Tempo’ is an important measure that significantly increases recognition of the contributions and vitality of our Brazilian brothers and sisters while giving them an added voice to expand the Island’s knowledge of Brazil’s rich history, arts and culture." — Trustee Bob Reardon on behalf of the M.V. Diversity Coalition and their applause for the addition of translation services for the MV Times

Here's a dessert that can be made from typical kitchen staples: Bread Pudding, adapted from a recipe at the famous Bon Ton Café in New Orleans. If you toss in some dried fruit and spices, you can call it
a Wet Nelly, or a moist Lord Nelson Cake.
If you have a favorite variation of this recipe, send it to us at recipes@mvtimes.com, and we'll share it with the community.
