Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Of all things, today is National Onion Day, a day to plant onions (we think you’re a little late on planting) and of course to eat onions. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Fourth of July is here
The Edgartown select board finalized plans for the big day this year: the Fourth of July parade and the fireworks over the harbor. And, the board also brought back the Dock Dance Band, after a hiatus last year. It was a big hit for Edgartown residents on Tuesday nights, and after settling some conflicts, the town and band have a new plan. Read more here.
Housing for Edgartown?
Voters at the next town meeting in Edgartown will be voting on whether to purchase the old Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank headquarters. That’s after the governing board decided to go with the town’s request to purchase the Main Street property. Dukes County government had also put in a request for the property, but the Land Bank liked what Edgartown was offering more. Read our coverage here.

Possible Dreams
Possible Dreams, the annual fundraising auction for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, will be hosted by Seth Meyers for the fourth year in a row. The event will have over 40 items and experiences available. Highlights include a private screening with Jake Gyllenhaal, a shopping spree at Vineyard Vines, and a day on the set of the drama series "Yellowstone." Get more information here.

Hot Topic Comment
James Klingensmith commented on our story about the potential collaboration among Island schools and Island Housing Trust to provide year-round housing to Vineyard teachers: "I commend the IHT and Jordi’s leadership toward providing and finding ways to provide affordable housing on the Vineyard. Whether it is for working families in general, the Schools, whoever, it is imperative that the island community begins to realize we have a housing crisis for all island needs. Young, old, disabled, working or retired and to support our needs we need island housing that is affordable."

Hot Topic Letter
James Glavin filed this letter from Aquinnah: "It’s lonely being the last remaining passing zone between the Gay Head cliffs and Quansoo, after the street painters obliterated all my kin and ken this spring. Crawling down the state highway, their yellow squirter-sled callously erased all remnants of my brethren."
Today: American Sign Language Open Practice Group meets at the Oak Bluffs library. I’ve always wanted to learn ASL. I know a few signs, but not enough to have a conversation. You can drop in, no need to register. 5:30 pm. –Connie Berry

Make your way to the Bodhi Path Buddhist Center for Group Meditation, or you can check it out on Zoom. See how easy they make it for you? 6 pm. –C.B.
Tomorrow: I seriously need a trip to the West Tisbury Farmers Market, and this time I’m buying vegetables, not bread and chocolate. I swear. Ag Hall. 9 am to noon. –C.B.
