Today is World Refrigeration Day, and — stay with me — a tour of the MV Times office fridge is in order. Our three-foot-tall Danby-brand fridge is smaller than we’re used to, replacing a much taller model from earlier this year. Scotch tape tabs cover the door, but aren’t
attached to anything. Our fridge is beverage-dominated, with newly stocked Coors Light, La Croix, several Vitamin Waters and a Snapple, and non-alcoholic beers from a March party that might never be opened. The only food available is a hummus container and a one-day-expired yogurt. How would you rate the Times’ office fridge? If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Meet the Island’s newest harbormasterDuring a special select board meeting in Tisbury Tuesday, three candidates — Michael Gately, Michael Wilson, and Gary Kovack — were interviewed for the position of Tisbury harbormaster. At the select board meeting later that day, Kovack was
offered the job. His experience as an Edgartown police officer and 16 years spent in the U.S. Coast Guard have prepared him for the role, according to select board members. Previous harbormaster John Crocker is set to retire July 2, and Kovack will hopefully be able to begin leading several days after. Read more here.

Sunrising off Aquinnah More offshore wind is on the way near the Vineyard. This time, Sunrise Wind received the last federal approval it needed to kick off construction. While it’s uncertain when exactly construction will start, Sunrise Wind is expected to start building later this year. Developments are also underway for other offshore wind projects. Construction for the Revolution Wind project began last month and Vineyard Wind 1 now has 10 turbines in operation. Read more here.

Wild Side: Planting for wildlife Learn about plants to use for wildlife-friendly landscaping. Native plant species, which are plants that occurred on the Vineyard before European settlement, offer many advantages to Island wildlife. Unfortunately, achieving a completely native property is tricky and can be time consuming. Matt Pelikan encourages readers to reach a "near-native" landscape, which is made up of species from the Northeast, or at least Eastern North America, that are
adaptable enough to flourish on Martha’s Vineyard. Read more about "near-native" plants here.
