Interfaith service honors Dr. King and Rabbi Heschel
The Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center hosted an interfaith community shabbat service Friday evening to celebrate the lives and friendship of two civil rights leaders — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. The service was attended by members of the NAACP Martha’s Vineyard branch, M.V. Diversity Coalition, and the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury, and highlighted the significance of solidarity between two cultural communities. Reporter Abigail Rosen has this story.
Housing and more for veterans
The Martha’s Vineyard veterans transitional and affordable housing committee has reached a milestone by getting an affordable housing project for veterans in Oak Bluffs to the request for proposal phase. Although this project is still the focus, the committee will work with the community to take steps toward providing on-Island veterans the support they need. Committee members sat down with The Times to talk about the work that is taking place and why it is being done. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this story.

What Are You Watching?
Writer Geoff Currier has been tuning into the "Chronicle" news magazine on WCVB-TV Boston for about 40 years now, and he still can’t get enough. For such a large and successful newsmagazine, it might come as a surprise how in-depth and regular their coverage of Vineyard life is. There’s a bit of interesting history related to Currier’s love for the program. You can read all about it in the most recent What Are You Watching.
