Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Tomorrow at around 11 pm is the solar equinox. That’s the moment when the sun appears directly above the equator. It occurs twice each year, in March and September. Mostly, it means that spring is officially here. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

State rep. race heats up
An Islander, Arielle Faria, has announced that she will be joining the contested race to represent the Island — as well as Nantucket and parts of Falmouth — at the state house. Faria has been an advocate for housing both professionally and at the grassroots level. She will be facing off against at least one other Democrat in September. Read our coverage here.

South Fork completed
South Fork Wind, an offshore wind farm located around 20 miles from Martha’s Vineyard, recently finished construction. The project will connect to the electric grid on Long Island. It’s the first fully-built, utility-scale, offshore wind farm in the United States. Read more here.

Microaggressions
The M.V. Hebrew Center and the local chapter of the NAACP held a panel discussion on Sunday discussing microaggressions, a subtle — and sometimes not-so-subtle — sign of racism. The panel featured a number of locals who offered strategies for counteracting microaggressions, and there was talk of expanding the discussion beyond. Read that story here.

Quote of the Day
"It all starts with housing."
— Islander Arielle Faria on her bid to represent the Vineyard at the Massachusetts State House

Hot Topic Comment
"I am so pleased to hear that Richie Smith signed a three year contract. Over the past couple of years I have seen him grapple with daunting issues with wisdom and sensitivity, and it will take someone like him to get us through more challenges. He sees the possibilities rather than the liabilities, and recognizes that when our community works together we win/win."
— Sandy Pimentel on Superintendent Richie Smith’s contract renewal

Hot Topic Letter
"...this is my heartfelt plea to reconsider the leash. It keeps them safe, keeps them near you. Also, at least in the town of Tisbury, it’s, you know, the law."
— Petra Lent McCarron urging owners to leash their dogs when walking in public

Staying in?
One-dish comfort food is just steps away with the Island Grown Schools recipe for Spanish Tortilla, by Maura Martin and Austin Racine of Mo's Lunch. Like with omelets, you can toss in leafy greens, mushrooms, cheese, peppers, or other ingredients. It's also a great way to use up fresh eggs. See you at a local farmstand!
