Murphy winner in Aquinnah With a tally of 129–115, Aquinnah select board chair Tom Murphy secured three more years in office over challenger Jannette Vanderhoop. Write-in Jim Mahoney earned a spot on the planning board, and Katherine Newman finished far ahead in the health board race. According to town clerk Kayla Darcy, the election had a remarkably high turnout at 246 ballots. Read more here.

More cables The Martha's Vineyard Commission has approved three more cables that will go into Muskeget Channel, located off of Chappaquiddick. While the project is anticipated to give a boost to renewable energy through the offshore wind farm it will be connected to, not everyone viewed the project favorably. Read more here.

First sign of summerThe bakery at 5 Post Office Square is an Island staple, loved by locals and visitors alike, but nothing says summer quite like the wafts of apple fritters that linger in the Kennebec Avenue parking lot once the

Join author Fan Ogilivie to learn about her new series of three poetry books: "Dust is the Only Secret: Assent to Life." Book one: To Understand. Book two: To Incorporate. Book three: Then Let It Go.” It includes passages and a scientific arc from Ursula Goodenough's "The Sacred Depths of Nature," and passages from Fan's early memoir, "Knot: a Life." 4 pm at Featherstone. –C.B.

The Climate Action Fair takes place at the Ag Hall with 40-plus organizations helping us understand how to live more sustainably. 12 to 4 pm. The awards ceremony for Vineyard Conservation Society's Art and Writing Contest for high school students takes place at the fair at
2 pm at the Ag Hall. The Flying Elbows and caller Kansas Brew bring us a big ol’ Contra Dance at the Unitarian Universalist Society in Vineyard Haven. Don’t feel like showing off your dance moves in public? Then just come to listen. 4 pm. –C.B.
