Housing optimismIslanders are reacting after the Speaker of the Massachusetts State House said that he was open to discussing the possibility of
legislation around a transfer fee, which many housing advocates have been pushing for years. The theme from advocates in support of the measure is optimism; they are hopeful that a bill could go to the floor this session. Read that story here.

Career opportunitiesA Steamship Authority oiler was before officials this week requesting more support for building a career with
upward mobility. The staffer said that oilers who want to advance their career have to leave the Steamship because of a lack of opportunities to receive a license. The response so far is that there are hiring issues across the industry, nationally. Read that story here.

Quote of the Day "We’re really in a paradigm shift here, where we’re trying as a society, or as a population, to move away from burning fossil fuels [...] that’s a huge step, right? It’s like when we switched from the horse-drawn carriage to the combustion engine." — MVC regional energy planner Kate Warner on a MVC report detailing how the Vineyard can transition to 100% renewable energy use by 2040Hot Topic Comment"Not sure where Ron’s looking but according to the states sanctuary towns I don’t see Martha’s Vineyard listed. [...] We have kids born here that have to live with their parents due to the housing shortage. It seems mean spirited to send more people here where there is no housing. Anyone else agree?" — Jean Kelleher on proposals by Ron DeSantis to send Haitian asylum seekers to Martha’s VineyardHot Topic Letter"As Biden put it, 'I’m a capitalist. You want to make a million, or millions, of bucks? That’s great. Just pay your fair share in taxes.' And, he added, the Trump-era tax cuts 'exploded the federal deficit,' which in fact the above research shows it did." — Jack Fruchtman on assessing former President Trump’s
Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in context of its expiration this year
