On Saturday, every available inch of Five Corners was filled with protesters joining similar rallies across the country. The so-called "Bans Off Our Bodies" rally was held in protest of the leaked Supreme Court decision, which appears to overturn Roe v Wade. Reporter Abigail Rosen was there to speak to participants and has the story and photos from the event.
COVID update
In recent weeks, COVID-19 has made an unwelcome return to the Island. For the second week in a row, the number of cases on the Vineyard has exceeded 100 and this week the Island has been pushed into the high risk category for spread. Here’s that update.

Ready, set, charge!
There was a parade of electric and hybrid vehicles from Edgartown to West Tisbury on Saturday. The event was a culmination of Climate Action Week, which was held to put a spotlight on the Island’s pursuit of becoming less dependent on fossil fuels in an attempt to curb the effects of climate change on the Island. There were 31 vehicles included in the convoy, which didn’t taken a direct route, but instead went through several towns to showcase the number of electric vehicles on the Vineyard. Freelance reporter Louise O’Donnell has this story, photos, and video.
MEETINGS

Quote of the Day
"When you talk to any of the farmers or the vendors at the Farmers Market, up to 40 percent of their income comes from the Farmers Market. Forty percent. So, when you talk about time sensitive, yeah it’s time sensitive. Farmers have crops. Farmers have products they’re producing and staff that they need to pay. It is time sensitive." –Brian Athearn, president of the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, on supporting the continuation of the Farmers Market at the Ag Society property

Hot Topic Comment
Donald Herman, who retired as football coach, welcomes his replacement. "Welcome Tony Mottola. I wish you nothing but the best. Vineyard Pride!"

Hot Topic Letter
Tom Dresser offers his thoughts on the leaked Supreme Court ruling that would overturn Roe v Wade. "It is a damning step backwards. Friends and family who have had abortions found it was the surest way to ensure they lived their lives, and the lives of their families, to the highest degree possible. Denying that right destroys the option of when to have children. It makes women second class citizens. Denying a woman the right to control her own body, limiting her options, is unconscionable.
Today: I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you that it’s Bingo Night at the American Legion in Vineyard Haven. Bring snacks to share and enjoy the camaraderie with your friends and neighbors. It’s a great way to start your week. Doors open at 6 pm. –Connie Berry

I have seen a hummingbird around our plants for three days straight, so Birdscaping: Home Sweet Habitat is intriguing to me. The Chilmark library hosts this virtual program about creating a welcoming habitat for birds. 7 pm. –C.B.
Tomorrow: I love lavender. It hasn’t been easy to grow in my yard though, and I bet if I went to this M.V. Garden Club program, Lavender Dos and Don’ts, I might learn a few things. 1 pm at the Wakeman Center. –C.B.

Thrilling throwback
For this week’s What Are You Watching, Eunki Seonwoo brings us back to 2017 for the thrilling and downright creepy film "The Ritual," available on Netflix. The British horror piece combines Nordic occult elements with a seemingly endless forest shrouded in mystery (plus there’s a scary monster in there, too). Read the rundown here, and grab some popcorn.
