It’s been talked about for years — the lack of abortion services for women on Martha’s Vineyard. In a story three years ago, it was noted that the closest place to the Island for a woman to go is in Rhode Island. Well, on Wednesday that all changed with an announcement from Beacon Hill. Health Imperatives in Vineyard Haven is one of 11 places across the commonwealth receiving funds to provide abortion services. Reporter Abigail Rosen has this story.

The Patriot Way
While the Steamship Authority’s cancellations threatened to leave some folks stranded on either side of the Sound, the Patriot’s Quickwater ferry sprung into action to provide a bit of a Christmas miracle for commuters, including a group of UPS and postal workers who were out delivering last-minute holiday packages, on both sides. Reporter Rich Saltzberg has this story.

Decked halls? Oak Bluffs has created a new policy for holiday decorations that it hopes will "ensure that each town owned facility or property has a welcoming atmosphere and does not result in the town advancing or inhibiting any particular religion, culture, group, or ethnicity." Though they never said what the impetus was for the policy, the select board approved it without much deliberation. Meanwhile, the town does not have enough money to complete its streetscape vision. Reporter Abigail Rosen has this story.

–Airport director Geoff Freeman on a state grant the airport received Hot Topic Comment Shelly Jones commented on Tisbury setting its exemption for town residents. "Commercial property in residentially zoned areas should have a higher rate of property tax. All of the houses owned only for rental fall into this category." Hot Topic Letter Jack Fruchtman wrote about equal rights, fair elections and the court. "After the 2020 presidential election, some state legislators tried, and failed, to appoint electors of their own liking, not those of the winning candidate. Seven states, including Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, sent bogus electors to Washington, D.C., on Dec. 14, 2020, when the votes were counted. Even though Joe Biden won the popular vote in their states, these fake electors argued that their state legislatures could overturn the will of the people and elect Donald Trump instead."
